In case you haven’t heard, I’m on vacation!
On Monday night I left Boston and on Wednesday morning I finally arrived in Cape Town. I plan on checking in a little here and there (my Dad has never mentioned my blog and all the sudden he requested that I blog from Cape Town so he can see what’s up!), but today I have a guest post!
So, remember when I used to run? I think it was last year I ran some crazy distance like a marathon. I’ve fallen off the running wagon, but it still has a special place in my heart. When my friend Erin reached out to me about a guest post about her training for a summer race, I actually went straight to the race page and was HIGHLY tempted to sign up.
Without further ado, here is Erin with some running inspiration:
Hello Posh Meets Pavement Readers! I’m Erin, blogger over at Color Me Styled and Get UR Daily E and co-founder of the Windy City Blogger Collective. I had the pleasure of meeting Sierra about a year ago and I love Posh Meets Pavement, even though I am not a fitness buff.
Last fall I registered for the Soldier Field 10 Miler and I am now officially in the training window for the event. Since I haven’t run a long race in a few years I have asked Sierra to let me borrow PMP once a week to share my training experience and to help hold me accountable! Hopefully I’m not the only one who will skip a run if she knows no one will notice.
I am using Hal Higdon’s 15k training program for novices since the distances are similar. Here’s what the first week looks like.
Monday – stretch and strengthen
Tuesday – 2 mile run
Wednesday – 30 minute cross training
Thursday – 2 mile run + strengthen
Friday – rest
Saturday – 2 mile run
Sunday – 30 minute cross
I haven’t run, except to catch a bus, since I ran a Turkey Trot at Thanksgiving and before that I probably hadn’t run for months so I am really starting from scratch here.

Sierra was kind enough to offer me some tips for getting started!
1. Run with friends!
2. Get clothes that you feel 100% comfortable in
3. Track your mileage on Dailymile and celebrate the mileage of each week
4. Put your foamroller out where you can see it and squeeze in a couple mins in the morning and before going to bed
I am excited to get training going and have a successful race at the end of May! Next week I’ll tell you all about how my first week of training went.

Editor’s Note from Sierra: My advice above about running with friends should actually read “Run with Sierra”.
